Buddha's Light Hsi Lai Scouts: Self-cultivation through Outdoor Activities

On April 14, Girl Scouts Troop 18894 and Boy Cub Scouts BSA Troop Pack 8888 from Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple hosted a one-day training event at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center. The event focused on enhancing team spirit and outdoor survival skills. Over 60 scouts and their parents attended.

A major highlight was "Adventure Hill," a new facility featuring four zip lines across a canyon, a climbing tower with varying difficulty levels, and a rappelling experience. These physical challenges offered the children the thrill of pushing beyond their limits, fostering courage and teamwork.

The archery and BB gun shooting sections helped develop the children’s strength, concentration, and observation skills, emphasizing the coordination of different body parts. Safety awareness and proper operating procedures were also key focuses. The children maintained good order throughout, exemplifying the scouts' high standards of conduct.

The climbing and ziplining activities were particularly challenging, requiring significant physical fitness and body coordination. These activities provided the children with a deeper understanding of adventurous pursuits. Before starting, they carefully listened to staff instructions on rules and safety equipment. During the activities, they took turns and followed guidance, partnering up to experience the thrill of ziplining at heights, which promoted mutual understanding and friendship.

The scouts of Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple are grounded in the philosophy of the "Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings." From a young age, they focus on self-improvement and strive to help others.
