Buddha's Light Hsi Lai School has a dedicated group of young people known as "Bodhi Students." These students spend their extracurricular time serving the community, embodying the spirit of "Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings" advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founding master of Fo Guang Shan (FGS). On March 8, 2024, Principal Ven. Hui Dong, along with Ms. Jo, teacher Kevin Su, and seven members of the Kalyana Mitra Group (Friendship Circle Group), gathered at Hsi Lai Temple. Ven. Hui Dong expressed his gratitude to the teachers and students for their dedication and encouraged them to uphold the principles of goodness and maintain their commitment to service, no matter where their future paths may lead.
Under the guidance of Ven. Hui Dong, Buddha's Light Hsi Lai School launched the "Bodhi Student Project" in 2017. This initiative guides graduates back to the school to continue their growth and serve the public. As the number of Bodhi students grows, the school has established various clubs such as the choir, publicity group, and Kalyana Mitra Group, allowing the youth to showcase their talents. Led by teacher Kevin Su, the Kalyana Mitra Group engages in various school activities, including venue decoration, production of 3D-printed souvenirs, and printing of volunteer uniforms, inspired by the guidance of Ven. Man Zhao and his mother.
During the meeting, members of the Kalyana Mitra Group shared their experiences with Ven. Hui Dong. Group leader Samantha Kao expressed that through their dedication and event planning, she better understands the "Three Acts of Goodness" advocated by FGS and grows together with her peers. Brandon Hsu and Erica Xie presented the meticulously crafted souvenirs to the principal, explaining the production process. They emphasized their spirit of fearlessness in the face of failure and continuous experimentation until achieving the best results. Lastly, Kalyana Mitra Group officer Kayla Anekananda expressed gratitude on behalf of the Bodhi students to Ven. Hui Dong and the venerables, highlighting the significance of using the skills learned at school as volunteers to contribute to their alma mater and the community.
