Equipped with brooms, rakes, dustpans and smiles, preparation for the much-loved, well-attended annual 4th of July Parade began early in the morning of June 25th. More than 70 local Buddha‘s Light International Association (BLIA) members came together with Alex Wu, president of the BLIA Los Angeles Chapter, Ven. Man Deng, Ven. Miao Huang, and Ven. Zhi Xing to clean and tidy up the streets and sidewalks along the parade route in Hacienda Heights, alongside other community members.
It has been a long-standing tradition for the Hacienda Heights Improvement Association (HHIA) to hold a July of 4th Parade for the community. Before the event, schools, scouts, and religious groups from the city unite and work hard sweeping and cleaning. Hsi Lai Temple and BLIA members have participated in the cleanup and the actual parade each and every year!
Ven. Abbot Hui Dong encouraged and praised everyone, “Your volunteering is greatly appreciated. Today, you're not only beautifying our community but also demonstrating BLIA members’ spirit of collective creation.” President Wu was happy to see so many BLIA members showing up, once again, to joyfully share their time and energy with their community.
“Although this is the first time I participated in this street cleaning, I enjoyed spending time with everyone and serving the community,” shared Lizhen Jian, member of BLIA LA Chapter. Another BLIA member, Nianhuan Wu, said, “I am very happy to be able to participate in this street cleaning to prepare for the upcoming Fourth of July Parade. I can feel everyone's joy, enthusiasm, and commitment!”
