On September 4th, The Buddha’s Light Hsi Lai School invited Ven. Zhi Yi to give an online introduction to the history of the school and its founder- Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Ven. Zhi Yi told a touching biographical story through film and song. Hearing Venerable Master Hsing Yun ’s legacy and what he had done for Buddhism really captivated the students and touched both the teacher and student’s hearts. Ven. Zhi Yi took the storytelling as an opportunity of incorporating Venerable Master Hsing Yun ’s story into lessons for the students’ daily lives, reminding the children to take care of and show respect to their parents, and to take inspiration from Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s endless pursuit for learning.
Students were introduced to Venerable Master Hsing Yun ’s one stroke calligraphy by closing their eyes and writing Chinese characters 「三好」 (Three Good Deeds) using the same style. As Venerable Master Hsing Yun ’s birthday is approaching, the students were asked to write「 星雲大師生日快樂」 (Happy Birthday Venerable Master Hsing Yun) along with birthday wishes in Chinese, English, Spanish, and French. Some students were too young, and under the guidance of their elder brothers and sisters, made hearts with their hands to give their sincerest blessings.
